The Buffalo Sabres earned their second straight win on Saturday afternoon, blanking the Florida Panthers, 3-0, at KeyBank Center to improve to 2-3-0.
Josh Doan powered the offense with his first two goals as a Sabre, both coming on the power play, after Buffalo’s penalty killers weathered a barrage of early Florida opportunities. The Sabres finished a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill and have now killed 22-of-23 penalties through five games, a league-best 95.7 percent success rate.
Owen Power added his first goal of the season, while Zach Benson continued his hot stretch with an assist, giving him five in his first two games.
Goaltender Alex Lyon, making his fifth consecutive start, turned aside all 32 shots for his first shutout of the year and the highest save total of his career in a shutout performance.
Jacob Bryson left in the opening period due to an upper-body injury and did not return.
The Sabres hit the road next to face the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m.
