Feds say NY misled on migrant trucker’s license

Federal officials say New York wrongly claimed a migrant’s commercial driver’s license was legally issued and correctly named, according to the Times Union.

Homeland Security says the man, an Indian national arrested in Oklahoma last month, entered the U.S. illegally in 2023 and is now in deportation proceedings. The state DMV said he had valid federal work authorization and used a mononym — “Anmol” — to get a REAL ID license.

But DHS says New York falsely reported he had only one legal name and failed to properly verify his identity. The case has sparked backlash as social media posts wrongly tied the license to the state’s Green Light Law — which doesn’t apply to commercial licenses.
