Senior midfielder Ruth Hotaling continued her dominant form with two second-half goals, leading William Smith to a 2–0 Liberty League victory over Skidmore on Saturday at Wachenheim Field. The Herons, who are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, improved to 8-2-2 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play, moving into second place in the league standings.

Hotaling netted her 10th goal of the season in the 49th minute, dribbling past a defender and slotting a low shot past Skidmore goalkeeper Avery Rogers. Eight minutes later, she doubled the lead with a curling corner kick that found the back of the net for her league-leading 11th goal. It marked her second straight two-goal game and third this season, moving her to 75 career points—19th on William Smith’s all-time list.
Junior goalkeeper Antonia Goerke made five saves to secure her seventh shutout of the year. Rogers finished with seven saves for the Thoroughbreds (4-3-4, 2-1-2 Liberty League).
William Smith held a 16–13 edge in total shots and a 9–5 advantage in shots on goal while earning seven corner kicks to Skidmore’s two.
The Herons return to action Saturday, October 18, visiting league-leading Vassar for a 2 p.m. kickoff in Poughkeepsie.
