Workplace health insurance costs set to climb everywhere

Health insurance through your job is about to get pricier, according to a new WSYR report.


A Mercer study projects a 6.5% average hike in employer health benefits per employee — driven by rising healthcare prices and higher usage. Some companies may hold premiums steady but offset costs with bigger deductibles and copays.

At the same time, ACA subsidies are set to expire, adding pressure. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says losing that support could push insurance out of reach for many families. A standoff in Congress over extending the aid has stalled federal budget talks.
