The Yates County Department of Motor Vehicles is promoting organ, eye and tissue donation during April as part of Donate Life Month.
Officials said residents can enroll in the New York State Donate Life Registry when completing license, permit or non-driver ID transactions.
The campaign coincides with National Donate Life Month, which highlights the need for donors across the state.
More than 3,200 organ transplants were performed in New York last year, while about 8,000 residents remain on a transplant waitlist.
Data shows roughly 300 patients in the state died in 2025 while waiting for an organ transplant.
“The Yates County DMV offers visitors the opportunity to ‘Leave a Legacy’ by enrolling in the New York State Donate Life Registry when conducting a license, permit, or non-driver ID transaction. During the entire month of April, our office will be raising awareness of the critical need for organ, eye and tissue donation in New York State,” said Yates County Clerk Molly Linehan.
