A bipartisan group of New York lawmakers is urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to stop the spread of for-profit hospice care, according to Spectrum News 1.
They’re backing the “Hospice Care Integrity & Oversight Act,” which would ban new for-profit hospice approvals while allowing the state’s two existing ones to remain. Supporters say profit-driven companies are cutting corners to cash in, threatening care quality.
The bill passed last session and now sits on Hochul’s desk. Lawmakers rallied in Goshen ahead of World Hospice Day, warning that expansion could hurt vulnerable patients.
