Cornell men’s soccer rolls past Dartmouth

Cornell men’s soccer cruised past Dartmouth, 6-2, on Saturday at Burnham Field, improving to 7-1-0 on the season while handing the Big Green their fourth loss.

The Big Red struck early, scoring three times in the first 31 minutes. Westin Carnevale opened the scoring in the 17th minute, followed by Giorgos Diakos five minutes later and Blake Donahue in the 31st to give Cornell a 3-0 lead. Dartmouth’s Sam Fenton responded with a goal, but Sergio Zapata added his fourth goal in three games before halftime to make it 4-1.

Cornell extended its advantage in the second half as Andrew Johnson scored from distance and Diakos notched his second of the match. Milo Peters added a late goal for Dartmouth, but Cornell held on for a 6-2 victory. Carnevale and Daniel Samways assisted on key goals, while goalkeeper Ryan Friedberg made six saves for his seventh win of the season.

The victory marked Cornell’s sixth straight over Dartmouth in their 76th all-time meeting. The Big Red remain perfect in Ivy League play at 2-0, sitting atop the conference with six points.
