Lindley woman accused of stealing social services benefits

A Lindley woman is facing felony charges after investigators say she lied to receive more than $500 in public assistance.

Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard announced the arrest of 28-year-old Kerstyn M. Buck on Tuesday. She’s accused of filing false paperwork with the county Department of Social Services between July 8 and August 31, resulting in $515 in benefits she wasn’t eligible to receive.

Buck is charged with offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records, both class E felonies. She’s also facing a misdemeanor charge of petit larceny.

Deputies released her with an appearance ticket. She’s scheduled to return to Village of Bath Court.

Sheriff Allard thanked the county’s Department of Social Services and the District Attorney’s Office for helping with the investigation.
