Hack strands drivers with breathalyzer devices in cars

A cybersecurity breach is leaving drivers stuck in place, as breathalyzer devices fail to unlock their cars, according to CNY Central.

The issue involves Intoxalock, a device required for many drivers with past DWI convictions. Since the breach began Saturday, some cars won’t start if the systems haven’t been recently calibrated, stranding users nationwide.

About 150,000 vehicles use the technology, and New York requires it for certain offenders. Officials say the timeline for a fix remains unclear, while the company has offered towing reimbursement for affected drivers.
