Drivers in Auburn should expect delays as a major repaving project gets underway along North Street.
Starting Friday, September 26, crews from Northern Asphalt will begin paving the two northbound lanes of the busy four-lane road. Work will pause over the weekend and resume Monday, September 29, continuing through the week until complete.
The 1.7-mile project stretches from Arterial West to just north of Quarry Road. After paving wraps up, crews will follow with lane striping and adjustments to utility covers.
City officials say access to driveways will remain open during construction, and flaggers will be stationed at intersections to assist with traffic. Some brief intersection closures may occur.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down, follow posted detours, and stay alert in the construction zone.
Mayor Giannettino and the City Council credited state support for making the project possible, noting funding came from NYS Touring Route road construction money in the 2025 and 2026 state budgets — with help from Senator Rachel May and the Governor.
