Langworthy votes to extend government funding, blames Democrats for shutdown risk

Congressman Nick Langworthy says he voted to keep the federal government open this week and is warning that Democrats are pushing the country toward a shutdown.

In a statement released Friday, Langworthy supported the House’s Continuing Resolution, which would fund the government through November 21 as Congress continues to debate full-year appropriations bills.

“Republicans are united in our commitment to getting this nation’s finances back on track,” Langworthy said. “While we’ve worked in good faith to keep the government open, Democrats are steering us toward a Schumer Shutdown with reckless demands.”

He claimed a shutdown would endanger military pay, veterans services, and assistance for seniors — and said the blame would fall entirely on Democratic leadership.

Langworthy also criticized what he called “partisan games fueled by Trump Derangement Syndrome,” framing the budget debate as another example of political dysfunction in Washington.

The statement comes as both chambers of Congress face a fast-approaching deadline to avoid a lapse in federal funding. The temporary measure Langworthy supported would buy lawmakers additional time to reach agreement on long-term spending.

As of Friday, negotiations between House and Senate leaders remained tense.
