Crews will start tearing up North Road in Canandaigua next week as a long-awaited upgrade project hits its next major phase.
Beginning September 22, Nardozzi Paving and Construction will start removing asphalt and stone, working in sections from County Road 28 east toward Mohawk Drive.
Once the old road is cleared, crews will install a new stone base and concrete curbs. The town expects to have the stretch between County Road 28 and Cayuga Lane fully paved by the end of October. If all goes to plan, North Road will reopen in early November.
Town officials say the project is moving on schedule and thanked residents for their patience.
Schools saw smoother traffic despite closure
Canandaigua City School Superintendent Jamie Farr said the school year got off to a surprisingly smooth start, even with North Road closed.
Strong communication helped ease congestion, and Farr called it “one of the best traffic situations” the district has seen during an opening week.
Town leaders praise collaboration
Town Supervisor Jared Simpson credited the progress to teamwork between the highway department, schools, and residents.
“The improvements being made will serve the community for decades to come,” he said. “We recognize that road construction requires patience.”
Officials say they’ll continue sharing updates as work moves forward.
