Packaging bill heads for third-round fight

After two failed attempts, climate advocates are once again pushing New York lawmakers to pass a bill slashing packaging waste, according to Spectrum News.

The Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act would cut packaging by 30% over 12 years and ban toxic chemicals. Despite Senate approval twice, it stalled in the Assembly — most recently due to last-minute lobbying pressure.

Assemblymember Deborah Glick says she’s open to changes but won’t compromise on core environmental goals. With the 2026 session approaching, both sides are scrambling to sway lawmakers before election-year politics take over.
