Cornell Tech has launched a research collaboration with Mastercard to study how to evaluate and audit generative artificial intelligence systems.
The effort will focus on improving transparency and assessing how AI performs in real-world settings.
The project includes faculty specializing in algorithmic fairness, AI evaluation and human-AI interaction. Researchers will examine how generative AI systems perform in areas such as financial services, hiring and health care.
The collaboration will develop evaluation methods, create auditing frameworks to detect differences in outcomes and study factors that affect AI performance in practical use.
Mastercard researchers will work with Cornell Tech faculty and share industry data as the research progresses. Cornell Tech plans to publish academic findings from the project.
The initiative comes as organizations assess how AI systems perform across different users and environments, especially where results may vary.
