Finger Lakes Community College has officially graduated its first class of licensed practical nursing students.
A special pinning ceremony was held August 22 at the college’s main campus in Canandaigua to honor the inaugural class and mark the milestone.
The event featured remarks from FLCC President Robert Nye, Nursing Department Chair Shayna Turner-Johnson, and LPN Program Coordinator Jennifer Dunn.
Graduates of the first-ever class include: Gina Balasi (Victor), Keyla Blaze (Seneca Falls), Sheila L. Brundage (Atlanta), Alexander Colcord (Canandaigua), Reagan Ferguson (Springwater), Kali Ham (Canandaigua), Chloe Jackson (Rochester), Syretta Linfoot (Prattsburgh), Prisileidy Poueriet (Fairport), Sadio Sirat (Syracuse), and Katlin Thurston (Auburn).

The college has offered a registered nursing (RN) program since 1968. The LPN program was made possible by the opening of the Sands Family Center for Allied Health Care in 2022, which expanded the school’s capacity for health care training.
The 36-credit LPN program can be completed in one year. After passing the LPN licensure exam, students can transition directly into the second semester of FLCC’s RN program — allowing them to work as LPNs while continuing their education.
The next LPN cohort starts this week as FLCC kicks off its fall semester.
