Graffiti spree leads to nearly 100 charges across three counties

Police arrested a man after discovering dozens of spray-painted tags stretching from Macedon to Monroe County.

Luca Michael Gruttadaurio, 23, was charged Wednesday with 84 counts tied to graffiti incidents in Newark, Macedon, and Irondequoit. Police say he’s the person behind the recurring “WRECK” tag seen on signs, walls, and even utility covers throughout the region.

Newark Village Police took Gruttadaurio into custody on August 20. He was already in jail on unrelated charges when police picked him up and brought him to court for arraignment. Investigators charged him with 21 counts each of criminal mischief, making graffiti, possessing graffiti tools, and criminal tampering.

Charges in other towns are still pending.

Gruttadaurio is reportedly homeless and has a history of theft, burglary, car-related crimes, and missing court dates. No estimate of damage costs has been released yet. He’s scheduled to appear again in Newark court.
