Fake DMV texts targeting New Yorkers in phishing scam

Scammers are sending fake DMV texts claiming unpaid traffic tickets to trick New Yorkers into sharing personal info, according to News10NBC.

The messages link to phony websites designed to steal data like license numbers and addresses.

Monroe County officials say seniors are especially at risk. The DMV never asks for info through text or calls — suspicious messages should be verified directly with local offices.

Victims are urged to report scams to police or the state attorney general.
