Yankees shut out by Rangers in fifth straight loss as Devin Williams’ struggles continue (highlights)

The New York Yankees’ struggles continued Tuesday night in Arlington, as they were limited to two hits in a 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field. The defeat marked New York’s fifth straight loss and spoiled Aaron Judge’s return from the injured list.

Judge, back after missing 10 days with a right flexor strain, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, both coming on Nathan Eovaldi’s splitter. The Yankees never managed to mount a serious scoring threat, going hitless after Anthony Volpe’s third-inning double until Ryan McMahon’s single in the ninth, which was quickly erased by a Giancarlo Stanton double play.

Will Warren kept the Yankees in it with five gritty shutout innings, working around three walks and three hits while striking out five on 98 pitches. The bullpen followed his lead for a while. Camilo Doval and Luke Weaver each stranded runners in scoring position, but the eighth inning proved costly.

Devin Williams, who blew the save on Monday, allowed a double to Adolis García and two walks to load the bases. After a 10-pitch battle, Rowdy Tellez dumped a two-run single into center, the Rangers’ lone hit in 16 chances with runners in scoring position, to secure the win.
