Target, Walmart kitchen stools recalled after injuries

Major retailers including Target and Walmart are recalling more than 300,000 kitchen step stools after multiple reports that the safety bar broke and caused serious injuries.

Affected products sold nationwide

The recall impacts the Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper, which features a safety bar on the back. According to the U.S. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Cosco have received 34 reports of the bar detaching or breaking, including two incidents that resulted in head injuries.

The affected stools were sold from February 2021 through July 2025 at:

  • Target
  • Walmart
  • The Home Depot
  • Lowe’s
  • BJ’s Wholesale Club
  • Amazon.com
  • Wayfair.com
  • Overstock.com

The stools were available in blue, navy, green, or white/gray, with the Cosco logo molded into the step handle. You can find the affected model numbers on a label located on one of the stool’s arms.

What buyers should do

Consumers should stop using the stools immediately and contact Cosco for a free repair kit.
