Mets overcome four-run deficit to edge Angels in series opener (highlights)

The New York Mets overcame a four-run deficit to top the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 on Monday night at Citi Field, fueled by a resilient bullpen and timely hitting.

Starter Kodai Senga lasted just three innings, surrendering four runs while struggling with command and diminished velocity. The right-hander walked three and struck out five, ending his impressive streak of 31 starts allowing three runs or fewer. Despite the early hole, the Mets’ bullpen held firm. Kevin Herget, Chris Devenski, Huascar Brazobán, Brooks Raley, and Edwin Díaz combined to allow just one run over six innings, with Díaz striking out the side in the ninth to lock down the win.

Brett Baty got the Mets on the board in the fourth with a two-run home run, and the offense came alive again in the seventh. Francisco Alvarez sparked the rally with a walk, and Juan Soto delivered a two-run single to tie it. In the eighth, Alvarez doubled and scored the go-ahead run when a throwing error on Ronny Mauricio’s grounder let Baty cross the plate. Brandon Nimmo added a key insurance run with a sacrifice fly.

Alvarez, returning from Triple-A Syracuse, finished 1-for-2 with two walks and looked solid behind the plate.
