Brittanie Earle will take over as Tompkins County’s Commissioner of Social Services on July 21, following a unanimous vote by county legislators. She replaces Kit Kephart, who is stepping down after eight years in the role.
Earle brings over 15 years of public service experience, including leadership in foster care, crisis response, and trauma-informed care. Most recently, she helped launch a non-police emergency response model at Cornell University.
In her remarks, Earle acknowledged federal aid cuts and pledged to lead with transparency, empathy, and action. Officials praised her deep understanding of public systems and commitment to equity in service delivery.
