Mets’ David Peterson added to National League All-Star team

New York Mets left-hander David Peterson has been named to the National League All-Star roster, stepping in for San Francisco Giants pitcher Robbie Ray.

This marks the first All-Star nod for Peterson, who has posted a 6-4 record with a 3.06 ERA over 18 starts. He impressed again Thursday, delivering seven strong innings of one-run baseball in a 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

Peterson joins teammates Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Edwin Díaz as Mets representatives at the Midsummer Classic, which takes place Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Ray, who has gone 9-3 with a 2.63 ERA this season, will be inactive for the All-Star Game as he’s scheduled to start Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 33-year-old veteran, a former Cy Young Award winner in 2021, is one of three Giants All-Stars, along with Logan Webb and Randy Rodríguez.

Peterson’s selection brings the total number of All-Star replacements to seven this year. Across both leagues, 72 players have been named to the rosters, including 22 making their first appearance in the showcase.
