Wayne County celebrates job boost from nuclear energy

A surge in nuclear energy investment is energizing job prospects in upstate New York, according to Spectrum News. The Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Wayne County already employs nearly 400 people, and a newly announced facility by Gov. Kathy Hochul promises to add thousands more jobs statewide.

Constellation, which owns Ginna and two other plants, employs about 1,700 workers and applauds the state’s push to expand clean energy. The new plant is expected to bring 1,600 construction jobs and 1,200 permanent positions.

Local leaders liken the impact to the Erie Canal, calling nuclear power a modern foundation for economic growth. They see it as a long-term solution to support families and attract new residents.
