Ithaca man pleads guilty in wife’s murder

An Ithaca man has admitted to killing his wife and now faces a minimum of 15 years to life in prison, according to WETM. Ahmed Abed, 44, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Tompkins County Court for the November 2024 death of Alaa Hussein Jeena Abed.

District Attorney Matthew Van Houten said he will request the maximum sentence, calling the act brutal and senseless. He noted the plea spares the couple’s children and the community the trauma of a full trial, though no sentence can undo the tragedy.

Sentencing is scheduled for August 19. The case remains a painful reminder of domestic violence’s devastating reach.
