Social Security Alert: Why Some Recipients Won’t Receive a Payment in June

Social Security Payment Alert

Millions of Americans rely on monthly Social Security benefits to cover basic living expenses — but in June 2025, a specific group of beneficiaries won’t be receiving a payment at all.

If you’re among the 7.4 million individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you might have already noticed that no check is coming this month. Here’s why — and what it means for your July benefits.

Why SSI Recipients Aren’t Getting a Payment in June

The Social Security Administration (SSA) typically sends SSI payments on the first of every month. However, when the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payments are issued on the last business day of the previous month.

That’s exactly what happened this month. Since June 1, 2025, falls on a Saturday, the June SSI check was distributed early — on Friday, May 30. That means beneficiaries won’t receive a second payment in June.

This isn’t a glitch or a missed payment — it’s part of the SSA’s longstanding calendar policy.

Here’s What the SSA Calendar Looks Like

The SSA payment calendar is highly structured and easy to predict once you understand the system:

  • SSI Payments: Always scheduled for the 1st of the month unless that date falls on a weekend/holiday.
  • Social Security Retirement, SSDI, and Survivor Benefits: Paid according to the recipient’s birthday:
    • Birthdays on the 1st–10th: Paid on June 12
    • Birthdays on the 11th–20th: Paid on June 18
    • Birthdays on the 21st–31st: Paid on June 26

Since June 1 fell on a weekend, SSI payments went out in May, leaving no SSI payment date scheduled during the entire month of June.

Who This Impacts

Those affected by this calendar quirk are:

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients
  • Dual beneficiaries (receiving both SSI and Social Security), who may notice only one payment instead of two in June

While this early delivery might feel like a skipped payment, the total amount of benefits across May and June remains the same. However, recipients should budget carefully to stretch funds across a longer gap before the next check arrives on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

SSA Encourages Direct Deposit and mySSA Account Monitoring

To avoid confusion and ensure timely receipt of benefits, the SSA recommends:

  • Enrolling in direct deposit to avoid mail delays
  • Checking your mySSA.gov account to track payments and verify deposit dates
  • Planning ahead during months with early disbursements

Looking Ahead to July

July returns to a normal payment schedule, with SSI arriving on the 1st and Social Security payments continuing based on birth dates throughout the month.

If you believe you’ve missed a payment or are experiencing unusual delays, contact the SSA directly at 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local SSA office.
