Taryn Luzi scored a career-high seven goals as the 10th-ranked William Smith lacrosse team rolled to a 21-8 win over Vassar in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon. The Herons improved to 12-3 overall and remained undefeated in conference play with their seventh straight victory.
William Smith’s offense was balanced, with nine different players finding the net. Katherine Murray added five points on three goals and two assists, while Mia Falco chipped in six points. Kate Colvin recorded a hat trick and won eight draw controls, and Kayla Quirk contributed two goals, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Maura Smeader made three saves in the win.
The Herons dominated across the board, outshooting Vassar 39-20 and winning 20-of-32 draws. William Smith also finished with an 18-11 edge in ground balls and was efficient in transition, clearing 14-of-17 attempts.
Tess Billings led Vassar with three goals, while goalie Bess MacMullen made nine saves.
William Smith will host a Liberty League semifinal on Friday, May 2, after securing the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. Their opponent will be decided after Tuesday’s quarterfinals.
