The 10th-ranked William Smith lacrosse team dominated from the opening whistle, scoring the first seven goals en route to a 17-6 victory over Rochester on Saturday afternoon at Boswell Field. With the win, the Herons improved to 11-3 overall and a perfect 8-0 in Liberty League play, clinching the regular season title and a semifinal home game on May 2.
Senior Katherine Murray led the charge with four goals and an assist, including a first-quarter hat trick. Taryn Luzi, Kayla Quirk, and Mia Falco each contributed four points as William Smith showcased its offensive depth, with 11 different players scoring. Junior Delaney Cassidy added two goals and led all players with four ground balls, while Maura Smeader made seven saves in goal.
The Herons controlled the game statistically, outshooting the Yellowjackets 36-16 and winning the ground ball battle 16-11. They were also efficient in transition, completing 16-of-17 clears.
Rochester’s Alyssa Gorny netted three goals, but the Yellowjackets couldn’t overcome the early deficit. William Smith’s win extended its home winning streak to 48 games.
The Herons close the regular season next Saturday at 11 a.m. against Vassa.
