Sam’s Club Ditches Checkout Lanes in Major Overhaul

Sam’s Club is preparing for a major tech-driven makeover that will phase out traditional checkout lanes in favor of a fully scan-and-go shopping model, company leaders announced last week. Shoppers will scan items using the app and pass through a scanner at the exit.

The redesign follows a layout used in a new Texas location and will roll out nationwide in the coming years. Staff will remain on hand to help guide members, with no job cuts planned. Instead, the company says it’s investing in employees to boost customer loyalty.

Sam’s Club also plans to open 30 new stores, with 15 more added annually as it positions itself to become a leading force in retail innovation.
