Ten prison employees charged in connection with Robert Brooks’ death at Marcy Correctional Facility have been offered plea deals.
Six former correction officers face murder charges, while others face manslaughter, gang assault, and evidence tampering. One defendant, David Walters, may plead to second-degree manslaughter, though his attorney called the offer “not a deal.” Prosecutors say federal authorities support the proposed resolutions.
The case stems from bodycam footage showing officers beating Brooks while restrained in December 2023. He died the next day. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide caused by neck compression and blunt trauma.
