Deputies arrested a 35-year-old Arcadia man Thursday afternoon following a reported fight that unfolded in front of his one-year-old child, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Jared Nesmith was taken into custody after deputies responded to a physical disturbance on State Route 31 in the Town of Arcadia. Authorities say Nesmith became irate while speaking with the mother of his child. A neighbor who stepped in to defend the woman was allegedly punched in the face by Nesmith.

The incident took place while Nesmith’s one-year-old child was present. He now faces charges including Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Harassment in the Second Degree, and Assault in the Third Degree.

Nesmith was held for arraignment at Wayne County CAP Court at 7 p.m. on May 16.
