Penn Yan board to vote on short-term rental inspections, tax levy

The Penn Yan Village Board will consider several high-impact measures at its upcoming meeting Tuesday evening, including a proposed law to authorize regular safety inspections of short-term rental properties and a resolution to set the village’s $3.9 million tax levy for the upcoming fiscal year.

The board will hold a public hearing on Local Law D, which seeks to implement periodic fire safety and property inspections at short-term rental facilities throughout the village. The proposed law is aimed at increasing oversight and ensuring safe conditions in rental units used for vacation or temporary housing purposes.

Another key item on the agenda is the formal adoption of Resolution No. 42-2025, which sets the village’s tax levy for 2025–2026 at $3,903,837.76. A related measure, Resolution No. 40-2025, would authorize the tax warrant to empower the Village Clerk-Treasurer to begin collection.

The board is also expected to vote on several administrative actions, including approving a $121,070 payment for the Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) for volunteer firefighters and funding annual contributions to local institutions like the Yates County Historical Society and Penn Yan Library.

The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in Room 202 of Village Hall.
