New York sued over climate rule delays

Environmental groups are taking New York to court, claiming the state has failed to release critical regulations for its cap-and-invest climate program, according to The Times-Union.

Citizen Action of New York, the Sierra Club, and others say the state is falling behind on its legal mandate to cut emissions 40% by 2030. They argue draft rules—meant to cap carbon emissions and charge polluters—were due over a year ago but still haven’t been published.

Although one set of reporting rules was proposed last week, advocates insist the remaining regulations are ready and should be released immediately. They’re asking a judge to intervene, warning that every delay undermines the fight against climate change.
