NY lawmakers push bills to counter federal funding cuts

State Sen. Jessica Ramos and Assemblymember Micah Lasher introduced two bills aimed at protecting New York’s finances and workforce amid federal funding cuts. The BRIDGE Act would offer fired federal workers a path to state jobs with partial pension credit, while the RECOURSE Act would allow the state to withhold funds if the federal government fails to pay court-ordered amounts.

The legislators argue that New York needs to defend its financial interests as pandemic-era aid dwindles. They emphasize the state’s role in funding national programs and vow not to let federal cuts hurt local services.

With New York facing both workforce shortages and financial strain, the bills aim to secure critical funding for schools, hospitals, and transit while attracting skilled workers to state agencies.
