Auburn man charged with attempted robbery after threatening victims with knife

An Auburn man was arrested after allegedly threatening victims with a knife during an attempted robbery at a Clark Street residence.

Zackary Harvey was taken into custody early Saturday morning, March 15, following a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress. Auburn police officers were dispatched to the scene around 4 a.m. and were informed en route that the suspect had fled.

Officers soon located and detained Harvey before heading to the residence to interview the victims. According to police, the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute in which Harvey allegedly attempted to steal a purse. During the confrontation, he is accused of using a knife to threaten the victims. A physical struggle ensued, but Harvey left the scene without the purse.

Harvey was charged with first-degree attempted robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of second-degree menacing. He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail, where he was held pending arraignment.
