Rescue crews saved a person who fell into Six Mile Creek near a 60-foot dam in Ithaca on Saturday evening. Firefighters spent two hours navigating the difficult terrain, using multiple rope systems to reach the injured individual about 100 yards downstream.
Paramedics treated the victim on-site before airlifting them to a regional trauma center. Multiple fire departments assisted, covering calls while the Ithaca Fire Department managed the rescue.
Officials urge hikers to stay on marked trails and avoid dangerous waters to prevent similar accidents.
