Tax season is underway, with the IRS expecting over 140 million filings before the April 15 deadline. New features this year include virtual assistants, scam alerts, and an expanded IRS Individual Online Account to improve accessibility.
Taxpayers who e-file can expect refunds within 21 days, while mailed returns may take over a month. Refunds can be received via direct deposit, paper check, prepaid debit card, or mobile payment apps. The IRS “Where’s My Refund” tool provides real-time tracking updates within 24 hours of e-filing or four weeks after mailing.
