The William Smith hockey team was edged by Salve Regina 1-0 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening. With the weekend split, the Herons are now 10-12-1 overall with a 10-6-0 mark in conference play.
Senior Erin Murray got the start in goal on senior day and made 33 saves in 58 minutes of work.
Reese Pereira scored for Salve Regina. Taylor Hannafan started in goal and made 25 saves as she earned the shutout. With the win, the Seahawks are now 14-9-0 overall this season with an 11-3-0 mark in conference play.

- Before the game William Smith honored its five members of the Class of 2025. Seniors Brianna Felice, Lauren Legler, Kayla Ketchabaw, Murray and Annabel Ziskin were recognized with a brief ceremony.
- The Herons had the first four shots on goal of the game, but could not chip a shot past Hannafan. Graduate student Mackenzie O’Neil had the best chance 11 seconds in, but Hannafan made a glove save.
- Salve Regina picked up momentum in the second half of the period, recording eight of the final 10 shots of the frame.
- The Seahawks dominated the second period, finishing the stanza with a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Salve Regina broke up the deadlock with a power-play goal 69 seconds into the third period. Pereira wristed a shot from the left faceoff circle past Murray. Her second goal of the season was assisted by Samantha Pereira.
- Gina Richard hit a goal post late in the frame.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS
- William Smith will enter the final weekend of the regular season in fourth place in the league standings. The Herons play UMass Boston next weekend in Boston. The Beacons are currently two points behind William Smith.
