Attorney General Letitia James, joined by 11 other state attorneys general, is fighting to prevent Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Americans’ private financial data. The lawsuit challenges the Trump administration’s alleged unauthorized grant of access to Social Security numbers, bank accounts, and other sensitive records.
A federal judge has already issued a temporary restraining order blocking Musk and DOGE from using or retaining the data. James and her coalition are now seeking a preliminary injunction to maintain these protections.
The attorneys general argue that only Congress—not the president—has authority over federal financial systems.
