Gov. Kathy Hochul is under mounting pressure to either call for New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ resignation or remove him from office after President Donald Trump directed the DOJ to drop federal bribery charges against Adams. Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado and other top Democrats argue Adams is now “compromised.”
Adams’ recent cooperation with Trump’s immigration policies, including allowing federal officers at Rikers Island, has fueled concerns. Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris warned that Adams is turning the city into a Trump stronghold and must step down.
Hochul, a longtime Adams ally, has not ruled out his removal but is weighing her options. If Adams stays, voters will decide his fate in the upcoming election.
