Josh Allen’s dominance in 2024 has officially been recognized with his first NFL MVP award. The Bills quarterback was named the league’s Most Valuable Player on Thursday, edging out last year’s winner, Lamar Jackson.
Buffalo’s offense underwent major changes in the offseason, parting ways with Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. With fewer weapons at his disposal, Allen was asked to do more—and he delivered. He accounted for 41 total touchdowns, including 28 through the air, 12 on the ground, and one as a receiver, becoming the only player in NFL history with at least 25 passing TDs, 10 rushing TDs, and a receiving score in a single season.
Allen also joined Aaron Rodgers as one of only two quarterbacks to record 40 or more total touchdowns in at least five seasons. Unlike Rodgers, who won MVP multiple times under similar circumstances, this marks Allen’s first win.
Despite shifting to a more controlled style of play, Allen led a high-powered Bills offense that scored 30-plus points in 12 games, tied for the second-most in a season in league history. He also posted career lows in interceptions (six) and sacks taken (14), guiding Buffalo to a 13-4 record and an AFC East title by Week 13.
Though the season ended in another AFC Championship loss to the Chiefs, Allen’s MVP campaign cemented his elite status.
