Ithaca Police safely de-escalated a tense situation Tuesday after a person in crisis threatened to jump from a rooftop on East Green Street.
Officers responded to the Asteri building at 118 East Green Street around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a subject on the roof. The individual was threatening to jump but was brought into custody without injury following negotiations by police.
The subject was diverted to mental health services for further assistance. Multiple agencies, including the Ithaca Fire Department, Bangs Ambulance, and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, were on the scene to assist.
During the incident, the 100 block of East Green Street was temporarily closed but has since reopened to traffic.
