The Seneca County Democratic Committee is seeking candidates for a variety of local and county-level positions in the upcoming election cycle. The committee announced it is looking for individuals to run for two seats on the Seneca Falls Town Council and two at-large positions on the Seneca County Board of Supervisors. Additionally, Democratic committees in towns across the county are recruiting candidates for positions including town council members, town supervisors, highway superintendents, county clerk, town justices, Seneca County treasurer, and Seneca County coroner.
Rachel Weil, chair of the Seneca Falls and Seneca County Democratic Committees, encouraged community members with a passion for local issues to consider running. “If you want to see more resources put into mental healthcare or services for the elderly, if you are concerned about the landfill and toxic algae in the lakes, if you want to see more affordable housing or infrastructure improvements or help for small businesses, now is a great time to get involved,” Weil said.
Weil noted that most local offices in Seneca County are held by Republicans, many of whom ran unopposed. She emphasized that no prior political experience is necessary and assured potential candidates that the Democratic committee offers financial support, training, and campaign assistance. “It certainly takes commitment and effort, but our communities need people to run so that the public has a genuine choice,” she said.
Candidates must be residents of the towns where they intend to run and support core Democratic values, including environmental protection, women’s and minority rights, labor rights, and public investments in housing, healthcare, and education.
Interested individuals are encouraged to contact Rachel Weil at [email protected] or their local town representatives for more information about the nomination process.
