An 80-year-old Elbridge man, Sherman Cottrill, died on January 7, weeks before his trial for allegedly killing his wife, Donna Cottrill, in 2023.
He was arrested after calling 911 to report the shooting, claiming his wife was “bugging him.”
Cottrill faced charges of second-degree murder and first-degree criminal use of a firearm. His case has been dismissed following his death.
Authorities said Donna Cottrill died from her injuries in July 2023, though Cottrill did not attribute the shooting to prior disputes.
