Corning woman charged with robbery at Steuben County Sheriff’s Office

A Corning woman faces felony charges after allegedly stealing a coat containing $1,000 in cash during a disturbance at the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Sara M. Herrick, 41, of College Avenue on January 16 after an investigation into an altercation that occurred in the lobby of the sheriff’s office during inmate visitation. Herrick is accused of harassing another individual and forcibly taking their coat, which the victim reported contained the cash, according to Sheriff Jim Allard.

Herrick has been charged with third-degree robbery, a class D felony. She was arraigned in Centralized Arraignment Court and released.

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
