As property tax season begins, Town Clerk Crystelyn Laske is reminding Canandaigua residents of important details and deadlines to ensure smooth and timely payments for 2025 Town and County taxes.
Tax bills were mailed on December 30, 2024, and residents who have not received theirs by January 13, 2025, can view or print a copy online or contact the Town Clerk’s office for assistance. Payments can be made by check, cash, money order, bank check, or credit/debit card (Mastercard, Visa, or Discover). Credit and debit card transactions will include a 2.85% processing fee plus $0.40 per transaction. Online payments are also available via the Receiver of Taxes page on the town’s website.
To avoid penalties, the first installment must be paid by 4:00 p.m. on January 31, 2025. The second installment can be paid in February with a 1% penalty or March with a 2% penalty. Payments not completed in full by 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2025, will be transferred to the Ontario County Treasurer’s Office.
The Clerk’s office advises residents to carefully review their payments to ensure the amount is correct, checks are signed and dated properly, and numerical and written amounts match. Payments made by mail must have an official U.S. Postal Service postmark—not a postage meter mark—to be considered on time. For added assurance, residents can request a hand-postmarked envelope directly from the Post Office.
The Town Clerk/Receiver of Taxes office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with extended hours every Wednesday until 5:30 p.m. Residents with questions can reach out to Crystelyn Laske at [email protected] or call (585) 394-1120.
