Ithaca school district may hold two elections in 2025

The Ithaca City School District is considering a second election in 2025 to approve a scaled-down $30-$40 million capital improvement plan focused on critical repairs, including electrical system upgrades and roof replacements, according to The Ithaca Voice.

Delaying the vote until May 2026 risks higher costs and longer project timelines. Board members believe a separate election would give voters clarity on the capital plan, distinct from the annual operating budget.

While a second election could improve transparency, officials acknowledge it might result in lower voter turnout if held outside the regular election cycle.
