The Watkins Glen School District is preparing for a public vote on its proposed $35.8 million Capital Improvement Project, according to district officials. At an informational session on Dec. 3, administrators outlined plans to renovate and enhance facilities across the campus, including classrooms, athletic spaces, and safety systems.
The district highlighted a “nominal” tax hike of 4.08% to fund the project, supplemented by state aid and reserve funds.
While praised for transparency and educational goals, the plan faced criticism for perceived unnecessary expenditures. Superintendent Kai D’Alleva stated that rejection of the proposal would result in a scaled-back version.
Voting is scheduled for Dec. 17, with Dec. 18 as an alternate date if weather interferes.
