A custodian reported seeing smoke around 9:30 p.m., prompting a swift response from the Ontario Fire Company. Fire crews contained the blaze to a single classroom, but cleanup and restoration are ongoing.
The Wayne Central School District announced that students in grades 5-8 will shift to remote learning through Friday, with staff reporting to designated district locations to prepare lesson plans.
Emergency response teams are actively working to clean and repair the building, with the district ensuring that students receive engaging instruction during the transition.
