Wildfire risks persist across Northeast amid dry, windy weather

Dry conditions and gusty winds continue to fuel wildfires across the Northeast, prompting evacuations and red flag warnings throughout the region. In Warwick, New York, voluntary evacuations remain in place as firefighters battle the Jennings Creek blaze, which has burned 7.5 square miles near the New Jersey border. The fire is about 88% contained in New York and 90% in New Jersey.

New York City, seeing a historic rise in brush fires, has launched its first brush fire task force, while Massachusetts and Connecticut grapple with unusually high wildfire activity. Southern New England and parts of Maine face similar threats. Some relief may arrive with rain predicted midweek, offering hope for regions struggling under drought-like conditions.
