The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has released its July 2024 report, showcasing a wide range of community outreach efforts and law enforcement activities. Sheriff Brian Schenck and Undersheriff Stuart Peenstra highlighted the office’s ongoing commitment to public safety and community engagement.
Key initiatives in July included the Sheriff’s Office participation in various community events, such as parades, fireworks celebrations, and educational programs. Notably, the office utilized a Plinko board, built by Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES tech students, at outreach events to engage both children and adults on public safety topics. The Tactical Response Unit also conducted physical fitness tests for new members, ensuring readiness for high-risk situations.
In terms of law enforcement activities, the office reported 1,619 calls for service and 32 arrests, including eight for driving while intoxicated. The Road Patrol Division completed Taser training to enhance officers’ ability to manage confrontational situations safely. Additionally, the Criminal Investigations Division worked on 64 active cases, clearing 17 through investigations.
The report also detailed the operations of the Custody Division, with an average daily inmate population of 136, and noted the Sheriff’s Office’s involvement in supporting the annual Vietnam Veterans Ride.
Sheriff Schenck expressed gratitude to his team and the community for their ongoing support, emphasizing the office’s dedication to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all residents.
